10 Questions - Glynn Farrar
In '10 Questions, we ask our pilots a few questions that they might not ordinarily get asked so we're able to learn a little more about them and their love (if thay have it) for flying. On this occasion, it's:
Glynn Farrar, Navigator Race 22
A min-biography if you'd be so kind?
From Worksop, North Nottinghamshire. 45 years old. Met my wife, Su (also a pilot), through air racing and 13 year old daughter, Seren, is navigator for Cliff Hawkins in Race 200. Used to be a getting-fat controller on the railways and currently working for DB Schenker in Doncaster planning engineering trains for maintaining the UK railway network.
How many hours do you have under your belt, starting from when?
Got my PPL back in 1990 and have approx 500hrs to date.
I'm sorry. You fly a what? Is this your dream aeroplane, and if not what is?
If your aircraft could fly forever, to what destination would you like to fly?
Anywhere. I could fly just for the sake of it.
What one aviation regulation would you change or introduce?
Get rid of the stupid rule that airfields are automatically classed as brownfield sites and can therefore be built on without planning permission.
Do you have an aviation idol? Who is it?
Not really but I have the greatest respect for anyone who has flown in combat.
What’s the next thing you’d like to achieve in your flying career?
Would like to own my own aeroplane but will have to wait until the lottery pays out big! Wouldn't mind having a go at wing-walking.
If not flying, then what?
American cars and photography.
Spitfire, Hurricane or Typhoon?
WW2 Hawker Typhoon, please, not the modern jet.
Do you have a favourite piece of aviation kit or software?
SkyDemon flight planning and navigation on my iPad.
Would you fly something you built yourself?
Yes. Have flown in several aeroplanes that I've had a hand in building.
